Othello

In my freshman spring at MIT I took the class 4.301 Intro to Visual Arts. For this project, we each created a public art display using locations we found on campus. Outside the old MIT Media Lab building, I saw a space that looked like it could be used for board games, like chess or checkers. I then decided to create an outdoor version of the game Othello, in which players take turns trying to fill the board with their color. To create the pieces, I cut out many circles with a bandsaw and painted each with one white side and one black side.
